Installation Instructions

In order to use the PLAXIS 3DFoundation 64-bit calculation kernel you need to fulfil these requirements:

• The 64-bit calculation kernel is only available for Plaxis 3DFoundation VIP users, see here
• The 64-bit calculation kernel only works with Plaxis 3DFoundation version 2.2. Please make sure that 3DFoundation Version 2.2 is installed prior to installing the 64-bit calculation kernel.
• The 3DFoundation 64-bit calculation kernel requires a 64 bit Windows Operating System.
• The option 3DFoundation 64-bit should be enabled on your Codemeter dongle.

New features

Benefits of this 64-bit calculation kernel compared to the original 32-bit calculation kernel:

• In the 64-bit calculation kernel, the memory limit is not determined by the 32-bit limit of 2 GB, but by the maximum available RAM memory in the computer system. Because of this, larger models can now be calculated.
• In most cases the 64-bit calculation kernel will improve the calculation time.

Known Issues

When using the 64-bit calculation kernel, you should take care of the following issues:

• The Plaxis 3DFoundation Output program is still limited as a 32-bit application. The maximum number of elements to be shown in the results is about 250.000 to 300.000.
• The Plaxis 3DFoundation 64-bit calculation kernel does not yet support user defined soil models. However, there is a beta version of the 64 bit calculation kernel available upon request.
• The Plaxis 3DFoundation 64-bit calculation kernel does not support multi-core computing.

Please note that this is only an addition of a new 64-bit calculation kernel. The pre- and postprocessor (Input and Output) are still those of PLAXIS 3DFoundation V2.2
