PLAXIS Courses
Throughout the year Plaxis organizes several courses at different locations all over the world. Some of those courses are held on annual basis, like the standard and advanced courses in The Netherlands which have the longest tradition in advanced geotechnical engineering. The content course is a mixture of lectures and hands-on computer analyses making the courses more than just a software training. The aim of both teaching and exercises is to concentrate on the use and background of advanced methods in geotechnical engineering.
Course types
There are two levels of courses, standard and advanced. The Standard courses are meant for those who have little or no experience with Plaxis and focus on the engineering aspects of the use of finite element method. The Advanced courses on the other hand assume a certain level of experience and therefore go deeper into the theoretical background of for instance the soil behaviour and soil models used in Plaxis.
Advanced courses may also address special topics as tunnel analysis or dynamics analysis. Furthermore there are Special Courses, these generally are condensed 1-2 day events that either have standard or advanced level.
Course format
All Plaxis courses share a common format. Each course consists of sessions of approximately 3 hours long. Each session starts with 90 minutes of lecturing, followed by an application exercise, focused on the topic discussed. During the exercises individual assistance is available, often in multiple languages. The main language of the course itself depend on the location of the course and may be in English or the local language or a combination. Occasionally courses are combined with user-meetings where users can exchange knowledge and experience, meet colleagues and make contacts in an informal setting.
